The matsuri is a cornerstone of regional Japanese celebrations. Generally sponsored by local shrines, these festivals celebrate various important events throughout the year, hosting spectacular parades, delicious food stalls and exciting games. Many famous Japanese events, like the Sapporo Snow Festival and the Nango Summer Jazz Festival, are considered to be matsuri.

Normally during Tokonatsu, we wish to honour these vibrant celebrationswith our own regional matsuri. With the world wide pandemic currently at the forefront of our minds, we have been unable to run as usual this year. Instead, a number of our voluenteers put together web based versions of some of the games and events that happen during our matsuri for you to try out!
